A swimming pool used to be only for those that were wealthy, but with the advent of above ground pools along with financing, many of us are able to afford this once luxury item. At one time only those living in warmer climates considered a pool, now with solar covers and heaters we can all have our own backyard pool. However, there are so many decisions to make before you can even buy your pool.

Solid sided swimming pools come in different sizes to fit your yard and your pocket book, but you will need to check with your local authorities to determine if you need any permits and what the local regulations are. Then pick a level location that is away from trees, septic systems and power lines. If you intend on installing your own pool, preparation is your most important tool, and doing it yourself will save you a bundle. If you don’t have the knowledge or tools to be able to do your own prep, make sure you buy from a pool store that offers installation. With swimming pools the old saying, you get what you pay for is generally correct, and you will have to do plenty of research, check out the warranty, good pools have a 20 year warranty.

Some backyard swimming pools are sold as a package, so your pump, filter and cleaner will be included. You can upgrade these items, so get the best filter and pump you can afford, this is where you shouldn’t skimp on the price. After the decision on the pool will come, stairs deck and fence. Then will come the addition of toys, the slide the floats, outdoor shower, patio furniture and pool games. All this will have to be stored in the winter so consider where you will put it all before you buy. Swimming pools are fun, do your research well and your family will have years of fun.
