A Scarf Is a Little More than a Scarf
Usually we do not pay attention to smaller details, yet those details can have a large impact on overall impression of one’s attire and style. This is the matter with such an accessory as one’s scarf. It can show your position in the society, your mood or the aim of your journey, either a business meeting or a social gathering.
A scarf is a piece of fabric, usually of rectangular form, that is worn either on your head or around your neck. Sometimes it is even surrounding your waist to tuck into the front of your coat. It is used for a whole range of purposes, and the main ones are four: to keep your head, neck and body warm, to protect your hair from dust and other impurities, as a religious tradition or as a fashionable item.
There were also some specific uses of scarves like in Ancient Rome where cloth scarves called sudariums (meaning ‘sweat cloth’) were utilized for swiping sweat from one’s face and neck in hot weather. At the time of Chinese emperor Cheng scarves denominated ranks of the officers, and similar classification was there in Croatian army where officers wore silk scarves, and ordinary soldiers put cotton scarves on.
Later on, beginning from the nineteenth century, scarves became a fashion accessory for men and women. Still, many religions who promote a modest dress code make special uses of scarves. In Judaism, for example, married women wear so-called tichel to cover their head, and young sikh boys put a bandanna before they are mature for a turban.
Thus there are many uses of different types of scarves. You can select the best form, color and fabric to your liking. We recommend choosing one of fashionable alpaca scarves or cashmere scarves that are available nowadays in the market. If your budget allows you to buy one, of course.
