Increased Shading with a Gazebo Canopy

Although spending time outdoors is a great way to get some fresh air as well as some exercise, too much exposure to the sun can harm your skin. This is why many people will apply sun block to their skin. The problem with just using these lotions is that they can only do so much especially if you’re going to be outside for hours at a time. What you will want to do to add to your protection is to get something that will provide you with some shade. Usually, people will just go to a nearby tree or to a side of a building where there is shade. This can be inconvenient however. Some places that you will go to simply won’t have any shading. What you can do instead is to get yourself a gazebo canopy.

These canopies can be taken with you when you go to a park or even on a camping trip. Since they are relatively light and easy to set up, they are perfect to carry around. You can get them in a variety of sizes. The 8×8 gazebo is one of more common sizes. You can even get the bigger ones that span more than 20 feet for bigger parties for example. Different styles will have different set ups so if you want convenience, look for ones that can be set up in under a few minutes.

If you plan on using one in your backyard, you will want to make sure you take your gazebo canopy down when you’re not going to be using it for long periods of time especially if you live in a windy city. The outside weather can cause the top of the canopy to rip over time. When that happens, you will need to go out and get yourself a replacement top which can cost over $100 depending on the type of quality you buy.

Installing Lights Around the Patio

Have you ever wondered out onto your patio at night only stub your toe on an unseen object. If you feel this way about your own patio, imagine what visitors will think who are completely unfamiliar with its layout? To improve visibility and make your patio a fun place to be at night, consider installing solar patio lights. Why choose solar and not wired fixtures? The answer is in the ease of use and quick installation. Users of solar lights do not need to feed wires through their walls or dig up the ground. All you need to do is to place the light fixture wherever you want and walk away. Even wall mounted solar spot lights are easy to install, requiring only a couple screws and absolutely no wiring.

Over time, solar patio lights can save you money. During their life, they may even pay for themselves. They do not connect to your wall outlet, but instead soak up sunlight rays and convert it into electricity. This allows for incredible flexibility in light placement. You simply need to find an area which gets a lot of sunlight. However, some lights have extension cords which allow to you place your light in a shady location and your solar panel in a sunny one.

Most patios sit on some sort of hard raised surface, whether that is a slab of concrete or a wooden deck. To prevent people from walking off the edge and falling, you can put solar patio stake lights at the border. Stake lights average about one foot tall and have a light pod which projects light onto the ground. When used nest to each other in numbers they act as an effective border. Users can see exactly where it is safe to step. They only require a spot of soft ground to stick them in.

If you have walkways leading to or from the patio, it is a good idea to install solar walkway lights in these areas. This increases visibility, therefore safety.

Easy Growing Tips for Tulips

Tulips are one of the easiest types of flowers to grow in the garden. They offer color and life to the early spring garden. When tulips and daffodils fill the landscape, you can be sure that spring is well on its way. Tulipa is the genus name that often precedes the different varieties of tulips. This flower has been a favorite flower for a very  long time and has a rich history going back many, many years. Their popularity in the Netherlands started the tulip off to becoming one of the world’s most beloved flowers.

Tulips come in many varieties and types. The colors that you can find in tulips is very wide. Just choose your favorite color bulbs, be it purple tulips or pink tulips. You will need to decide what colors you would like to put together and you are definitely on your way to choosing the perfect tulip.

Here are some steps to growing and planting your tulips.

1. Choose a location that will receive a lot of sun.

2. Clear the soil of any rocks and weeds and turn the soil over up to at least 6 inches.

3. Work in some bone meal or similar product into the soil.

4. Make sure you have good water drainage where you are going to plant your tulips.

5. Choose large bulbs when you have an opportunity to choose them yourself. The blooms will be larger with larger bulbs. So pick the best ones.

6. When you order bulbs from a company, you will receive planting instructions as well as information on the variety that you bought.

7. Tulips are typically planted from 6 to 8 inches deep and spaced about 4 inches from each other.

8. Tulips may be planted in a hole individually, or in groups by color.

9. Tulip bulbs may be dug up after blooming and after the leaves begin to die down. Dig them up and store them until the fall planting time arrives again.

10. Tulips need a cold period for their dormancy to be able to produce blooms the following year.

Don’t hesitate to try growing tulips because they truly are very easy to grow. They will reward you with beautiful flowers that are also some of the first spring bulbs to bloom. Try mixing them in with daffodils and crocus for a dynamic effect that only these brightly colored flowers can produce at that time of year.

A Popup Gazebo for Family Outings

Using a pop up gazebo is a viable, cost effective alternative to shelling out a fortune to build a permanent structure. This is especially true for those who need a gazebo now and do not have time to wait or the money to spend for a permit and materials needed to build one. Not only are these structures easy to set up and maintain, but they are also portable so the user can take them anywhere, such as on vacation or to an outdoor event, without any foreseeable hassles.

A popup tent or canopy are other affordable ways to take shelter with you wherever you travel. The tent version is much like the gazebo, however it has covered sides whereas the gazebo and canopy do not. All three versions come in one piece and setting them up is simply a matter of popping them up when you want to use them.

Simply removing the ez up canopy, ez up tent or gazebo from their protective casing and unfolding them is the only step needed to erect them. The folding metal framework is made with the help of specially crafted bending joints. The special construction of these joints allows for easy set up and storage when they are not in use.

Many of the popup tents will come equipped with an adjustable framework to allow the tent to become taller or smaller, depending on your specific needs. Additionally, the tents allow for rigorous usage outdoors and can withstand from 10 to 50 mile an hour winds, depending on the rating of your tent.

The rating also depends on the size of the structure used as well. They can vary from 10 by 10 feet to a very large 20 by 20 foot tent or larger in some cases. However, keep in mind that the larger they are, the more difficult it can be to transport because they will weigh much more.

Purchasing an ez up popup tent or ez up canopy may be one of your better decisions made when going on an outing. While in the rain, you may want to consider an ez up tent but if it is sunny, a pop up gazebo is sure to do the trick on any family get together.

Garden Decor – The Beauty of Garden Windmills

If you remember the pleasure of garden windmills which seemed to be everywhere a few years ago you will want to recreate the magic of bygone eras in your own garden, whether it is the simple wind spinner, or the sophisticated reproduced wooden windmill with spinning sails; some with quite large proportions and some tiny enough for the balcony. The magic of the wind catching in the sails is always fascinating. Throw in an old toy car, preferably with wings, placed strategically nearby and you have the aura of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Another favourite idea, taken from the travelling fairground is the carousel or big wheel always a delight when a gust of wind sends the miniature attractions into action.

Trends in garden decor change but at the heart of many of you will be the magical gardens of childhood, with the fairy and pixie houses and little toadstools housing a whole world for little imaginations steeped in fairy tales and enchantment. Little wooden houses made to look like gingerbread, adorned with painted sweets and shiny jewels sparkling in the sun and the witch peeping out from behind the bushes can strike the same fear, excitement and delight in children today as it did in children many years ago.

What about creating the mad hatters’ tea party from alice in Wonderland in miniature form to delight your little visitors? With a little wooden table and cups planted with tiny flowers such as miniature pansy plants and bowls of blooms to represent the foods, all tucked away and slightly hidden under a bush with sun flowers towering above and a ceramic rabbit hovering close by. There are so many aspects of childhood we can incorporate into our garden schemes to surprise and stimulate little minds and get the kids interested in creating there own little wonderlands.

The Benefits Of Landscaping In Any Garden

The term landscaping encompasses a wide variety of different gardening processes and tasks and therefore it can be carried out in the gardens of most people’s homes across the globe.  Due to the fact that the term is extremely varied, a garden can be changed slightly or completely by carrying out garden landscaping.

While making small changes can be classed as landscape gardening, it is the larger and more labor intensive projects that are more associated with the term.  For instance, the complete and utter cultivation of a lawn, with increased height in certain places and shallow sections in other areas can be considered a major landscaping project. Also large projects such as the creation and installation of a garden pond or the building of a full and complete gazebo can be classified as major landscaping projects.  Smaller projects might inlclude weeding, mulching or spraying fruits and vegetable plants with a portable backpack sprayer to eliminate pests and fungi.  Although the size and scopes of the tasks described above are different, the end effect of all the work is the beautifying and renovation of your garden and landscaping for your home.

The benefits of changing the landscape of a garden are important.  From adding a selection of flowers, shrubs or other suitable greenery into a carefully placed and prepared bed, through to completely changing the layout of a garden, amending the garden’s landscape can have a fantastic effect on everyone who uses the area.  Peace and relaxation are difficult to find, especially in today’s modern urban environments.  When you put the hard work and effort into creating your own miniature Paradise, it is such a joy when you get to actually realize the fruits of your labor.

As far as preparing for landscaping projects, make sure to do as much upfront research as possible before the work actually takes place.  This will ensure that you can complete your project on time and within budget.  It also means that the project will be done right the first time and won’t have to be revisited many times in the future.

Few Garden Pest Control Advices

Gardening can be great fun and good exercise. You can also reduce your grocery bill as a result of gardening, but if you don’t address a few issues you may find that you are feeding the pests rather than your family.

If you are a gardener you already know that you must have some House Pest control. Both floral and vegetable gardens need to be nurtured and not left to the pests. What a waste of time it would be to spend time planting just to let the insects reap the rewards.

Luckily there are many products available on the market to help you keep the pests at bay. If you are not going to control the pests why waste the time and effort that you will put into your garden.

To help your garden stand out and be noticed you should not only care for the garden but for the lawn that surrounds it as well. The frame of a painting makes the painting look so much better you just have to battle the pests.

Before you go laying down baits and poisons, turning your garden into a toxic waste dump, do a bit of research; there is plenty of information on the Internet to help you make your own pesticide. You can kill or deter garden pests without killing your neighbour’s cat.

Some pesticides can actually do harm to your garden as well as kill everything that comes in contact with them. Make sure that the ingredients that you are going to use won’t cause any damage to the plants that you are trying to grow. Chemicals can not only kill the pests but also the plants you are trying to save.

Get your lawn and garden to a nice healthy state before you worry about the pests, some pests will go away once the garden is healthy. But don’t kill it with kindness, too much water, too much fertilizer and cutting the grass too short can do more harm than good.

After getting your garden beautifully verdant, you may find that the snails and slugs will make an attempt to take over. These can be particularly harmful to vegetable gardens. In Toronto, Canada most pesticides have been banned, but Scotts EcoSense ferric phosphate is still used to eradicate snails and slugs. Why? Because it is safe to use.

It is obvious that garden pest control is probably the most important issue for the gardener. Educate yourself about the various pesticides that you will need to use to control the many pests that can make your garden look like a compost heap. Study the pests and you will learn the best way to eradicate them.
