Cufflinks which were originally associated with men exclusively, have expanded their appeal and are now used by women also. The basic function of the item is and has always been to join together and fasten whatever item may be involved, traditionally a shirt. But over the years, these items were so much more than a fastener. Oftentimes and in many situations, the cufflinks worn made a statement about who the person wearing them was, where they had come from, and where they intended to go. In numerous cases and situations throughout history, these unique and special items either opened a previously closed door, or at the very least made a statement of who the person wearing them was, and who or what they might aspire to become.

A lot ot the reason why is that the giver was expressing a special feeling for the recipient, and in most cases, it was a method of expressing enthusiasm and hope for where they were going, or appreciation for where they had been. This may be a bit different than the traditional use of these items, but as time goes on and things evolve, it is encouraging that the item continues to serve a significant purpose, and it’s popularity continues to increase.
