Install Anti Slip Flooring to Prevent Injuries

It’s hard to remember the days before we became such a litigious society. Believe it or not, there was a time when people had accidents and simply shook their heads at their bad luck or clumsiness, brushed themselves off and went on their way. Today, it seems like “lawsuit” is uttered even before “ouch”.

Business owners and homeowners, alike, need to do everything possible to make their property as safe as they can. Insurers of commercial property typically do an annual assessment or risk analysis to determine those areas of potential liability. They may recommend that the owner or management company install additional lighting or anti slip flooring to prevent the dreaded slip and fall. Often, these improvements are required to prevent denial of claims and adverse judgments in legal proceedings.

Although, most people may think of anti slip flooring as something found in commercial settings or medical facilities, there are areas of the home that can also benefit. Bathrooms are the number one area for falls at home. Tile is notoriously slippery when wet and is especially dangerous for senior citizens. In fact, falling is the number one cause of death for those over 65, according to AARP, and is a major factor when older Americans are forced to give up living independently and move into a nursing home setting.

Whether it’s the replacement of flooring or the simple addition of anti slip matting or stair treads, there are many things that can be done to increase the safety of our home and work environments. However, it doesn’t end there. It’s just as important to properly care for these products. Otherwise, the effectiveness of the anti slip technology may be compromised or damaged. This is where the value of employing a commercial cleaning service is readily apparent. These professionals should be knowledgeable in not only the care and maintenance of your flooring but also these added safety features. They will also be able to monitor when repairs or replacement is necessary and immediately report this to you.

There will always be slips and falls. Sadly, it’s unlikely that the frequency of lawsuits will diminish any time soon. However, being proactive with regard to the use of anti slip technology can significantly reduce legitimate accidents and thwart frivolous claims and scams.
