Wooden Garage Doors

Maybe you have heard a lot of rumors about the inadequacy of wooden-designed doors for garages. Some might say that wooden doors are prone to termites and that they are incapable of withstanding extreme weather conditions (such as monsoons and hurricanes). Though these allegations certainly have a basis, it does not mean that you cannot have your dream wooden garage doors.

The main reason why people consider wood as the primary material in their garage door plans is due to the beauty and sophistication that it can provide. Of course, if you have a vintage-inspired house, steel doors would look as if they are out of place. If this is the case, then perhaps, you just have to make certain arrangement to reinforce the durability of your wooden garage door.

The best way to avoid termites is to threat the wood with chemicals that will make it resistant to termite infestation. As for the issue of extreme weather condition, retrofitting your wooden doors will already suffice. Check out for holes, cracks, and other areas of weakness that might become the cause of the early destruction of the material. Repair any spots that do not look sturdy to avoid the weakening of the whole barrier. Make sure to consider the process of bracing in your garage door plans especially when you opt to retrofit it. This is as good as adding steel tubes in your door for added durability. It is better to call a contractor to do this job since it involves cutting frames, and putting them with precision.

If you intend to buy new doors rather than retrofit them, then look for high-quality wooden frames that have been mechanically tested to withstand strong wind impacts. You won’t have a difficult time finding them since a lot of hardware shops have them in their offerings. Just look around and you will see that steel doors are not your only option in having a fashionable garage door that you can rely on.
